Title (German, Long) Zu "den Werken des Gesalbten" (Mt 11,2–6 par.) vor dem Hintergrunde der alttestamentlichen und frühjüdischen Traditionsgeschichte
Author Pola, Thomas
Festschrift Der jüdische Messias Jesus und sein jüdischer Apostel Paulus

Pages 9-47 Pages
Genre Original
Abstract According to late Old Testament and early Jewish traditions the Messiah is expected to achieve (1) the restitution of Israel, (2) the construction of an eschatological temple, and (3) the eschatological atonement. In comparison the "works of the Messiah" listed in Mt 11:5 par. are incomplete because vv. 2-6 demonstrate the fulfilment of Is 35, 61:1-3 and a tradition close to 4Q521.
According to Mt 11:2-6 par. the new era expected by the Old Testament and early Jewish apocalyptic has begun without any preceding universal judgment. However, in Is 7:1-17 the impetus of the expectation of an ideal Davidic ruler influences the specific definition of "faith" of Isaiah that dominates Messianic expectations in Is 7,9 as well as subsequent Old Testament and Early Jewish traditions.
