Abstract Contrary to the thesis of a pre-exilic priestly, Torah-primacy has shown that it is only attributed
to the postexilic period here, because the pre-exilic traditions prove the activity of different “Torahträger“, namely scribes, the wises, judges and priests. A decisive turning point is the report on the Torah-discovery and the Josiah Reformation, making the primacy of the priestly role comprehensible, because the Jerusalem Temple was considered as God’s chosen place. This focus on the single temple reinforces and guarantees the relevance of the priestly function, though its responsibility for the Torah is not absolute. Its priority for the Torah is increasingly enforced through the priestly authorship, which, during the time of the 2nd Temple, was authorized by the exhaustive speech of Moses surrounding his death.
