Abstract The juxtaposition of Jesus' negative and positive comments concerning the Gentile mission has been controversial in studies of the Gospel according to Matthew. While many scholars have tried to explain these comments by suggesting that Matthean theology posited a decisive turning point in the Gentile emission at the resurrection, recent eminent studies by Matthias Konradt and Anders Runesson have highlighted this issue from rather different aspects. The present research extends those ideas to explore the vision and characteristics of the Gentile mission in Matthew's Gospel and to conclude that there is no distinction in Matthew between the pre-Easter and post-Easter mission.
