Abstract The study examines the different appellations of God in the book of Jonah (understood as a literary whole as has been shown in a previous paper): They are consciously chosen in each position and express the dynamic relation between God and his vis-à-vis. This relational approach can show that Jonah, like his “predecessors” Elijah and Jeremiah, despairs of his prophetic appointment and experiences his God as increasingly distant.
