Abstract Women are often mentioned in the ancient Mesopotamian law codes. Usually they are involved in family law but also in sexual crimes, such as adultery, violence, abortion. It is interesting to underline that, while women enjoy fewer rights than men inside the family or ih the inheritance law, as far as sexual crimes are concerned they are punished like men.
