Abstract There is a tension caused by the incompatibility of the syntax and context of Zechariah 1,3a. This article proposes that an allusion to the earlier prophetic stream eases that tension. Further, it examines Zechariah’s method of allusion in this verse, based upon the allusive character of the surrounding introductory verses (1,1–6).
