Abstract Long after Harnack criticized the Eusebian paradigm retracing the formation processes of the Great Church, today’s historians call attention to Eusebius’ special interest in documents, local events and the concrete daily life of the first Christian communities. Recent research has highlighted the importance of the records and letters that are contaiend in the Ecclesiastical History.
This paper studies the letters of bishop Dionysios of Corinth (c. 170) and the letters concerning the case of Paulus of Samosata (168-172). We can appreciate the precise typology and many details about ecclesiastical procedures, epistolary communication and the formation processes of private or clerical networks. In Eusebius’ history, bishops appear as networkers who eventually created an episcopal network in spite of the impetuous burgeoning of Early Christianity.
