Abstract The parable of the tenants in the vineyard has been transmitted in a Lukan version, represented by Luke-Thomas, and a Markan version, represented by Mark-Matthew, and, sometimes, Luke. The plot of the primitive parable has three narrative stages and two rhetorical questions, the second of them being a quotation of Psalm 118,22 (the future vindication of the murdered son). The basic features of the story display a realistic character except for those found in Mark 12,9b (the destruction of the tenants and the leasing of the vineyard to others).
