Abstract A detailed reexamination of the text of 2 Sam 15:2-4 and the inclusion of today’s knowledge of the legal system of pre-exilic Israel deprive the usual criticism of Absalom’s behavior of much of its justification. Absalom probably planned a judicial reform with the goal to extend the judicial authority of the king.
