Abstract With the uniqueness of the final form of the Marah account in relation to subsequent wilderness episodes as its impetus, this study proposes the following paraphrase for the textual ambiguities of Exodus 15:25b: “There the Lord appointed for Moses a statute and an ordinance on Israel’s behalf, and there He tested Moses for Israel’s sake.”
