Abstract This article has ains to analyze the scriptural and geographical meaning of the name Yam Sûph, a biblical expression that refers to the waters which the Israelites crossed when they went out of Egypt. It will be analyzed if, infact, there is textual support to consider Yam Sûph as the Gulf of Suez or if it would be more in favor of the identification of Yam Sûph as the Balah or Timsah lakes.
