Abstract This study examines the cultural setting of Tell al-Husn, Irbid, Northern Jordan, by radiocarbon dating ten human teeth recovered from a vertical shaft tomb complex. Robbery and tomb reuse have prevented establishing a clear chronology of the tomb. The results show that the first use of the tomb for burials was probably during the last stage of the EB III or the initial stage of the EB IV; the main use was probably during the MB IIA, while burials probably ceased at the end of the MB IIB. The interruption of burials during the EB IV might suggest a gradual collapse of urbanization by the start of the EB IV with pastoralism then dominating the area.
