Abstract For decades, Greek New Testament textual criticism has accepted Family 13 as a first order witness. Beyond the scholarly approval still remains the question of which criteria are—or are not—specific to determine if a manuscript is—or is not—a Family 13 member. In this way, the present paper focuses on five criteria: (1) the transfer of the pericope of the adulteress to a position after Luke 21:38; (2) the transfer of the pericope of the angel and the sweat like drops of blood from Luke 22:43-44 to a position after Matt 26:39; (3) the omission of the sign of the times (Matt 16:2a-3); (4) the hagiographical criteria; and (5) the “added material.” These textual features induced numerous scholars to add new members to Family 13. The paper sums up eleven manuscripts which were affiliated to the group but should not be considered as present members. In conclusion, even if the most important features of Family 13 manuscripts still remain the criteria as above described, we have to pay attention to the whole text.
