Abstract I investigate the clash of cults between the biblical followers of YHWH and the alleged supporters of Ba'al, as described in 1 Kings 18 of the Hebrew Bible. This research includes an examination of sources used to study the biblical account from an analytical and critical viewpoint. I then discuss the plausibility and sensibility of the story as described in the bible when compared to extra-biblical evidence and known artifacts from the period. A geographical analysis is also included to put the account into a correct context and to allow readers to draw conclusions about the impact of geography on the history and development of the ancient Israelite society and its neighbors. The conclusions drawn shed light on this very civilization, on its competing and diverging cults, and on the authors whose records of the period have remained to this day.
