Abstract The symbolism of clothing and time in JosAs suggests and supports an Oniadic reading as first proposed by Gideon Bohak. The love story of Joseph and his Egyptian wife has an aetiological meaning. Aseneth is not only a romantic heroine, but a figure that symbolizes Onias’ newly founded temple and its community.
