Abstract In some contexts, the verb root ts-kh-q correctly translates as laughing, toying, or dallying. In Genesis 39, Madam Potiphar’s use of the verb letsakheq (verses 14, 17) to characterize Joseph’s intent toward the household and towards her specifically best translates as “to insult.” It is not “to toy,” nor is his presence a laughing matter.
