Abstract In 2Sam 12,13-14 Nathan forgives David his sins and announces at the same time the death of the child which was begotten in the adultery with Batseba. On the background of the speech of grace in Ex 34,6-7 forgiveness must be understood as promise of life which guarantees the continuance of the promise of Nathan (2 Sam 7). Forgiveness does not mean that fault remains without consequences. But these must not challenge the promise of life.
