Abstract The story of the endangered ancestress in Gen 12:10-20 demonstrates how misjudges the Egyptians' behaviour and thus endangers his wife. At the beginning of the ancestors' account, the story reveals that living in a foreign country cannot be an alternative to living in one's own land without disparaging foreign countries or inhabitants. The early intra- and extrabiblical reception of the story evolves its differentiated diaspora-critical tendency in two ways. Gen 20:1-20 is diaspora-critical variant of the story, the Genesis-Apocryphon and the Book of Jubilees present a decided diaspora-critical version.
