Abstract This paper examines the issue of resurrection of the body in the Greek Magical Papyri. Looking at specific magic spells, the study addresses these questions: Does the physical manipulation of the dead imply the resurrection of the body? If so, what is the purpose of the bodily resurrection for the magical rite? The paper attempts to explain the functions of the reanimated dead as an assistant, and the significance of such innovation in magic. It also examines this alternative notion of divinity of the resurrected body attributed to the concept of assistance.
