Abstract Zōlēlâ in Lam 1:11c remains a crux that gives rise to various translations, most often “despised“, and recently “vagabond“, deriving from the Akkadian term zilulû. Yet it is possible to highlight a different meaning by properly situating it within Lamentations' poetic technique and render a fresh understanding of the term.
