Abstract The birth of the Torah in the 5th century BCE was a very important and significant event for the Jewish communities in Yehud in the Diaspora. In the Pentateuch Dt 4 and Dt 30 are two discourses telling the importance and the deepness of this event in the Persian period. The contribution of this paper attemps to argue how Dt 30 develops a singular significance complementary to Dt 4 and how Dt 30 offers a radical understanding of the Torah in a comparative reading with Gn 2-3. On an historical level Dt 30 may be understood as a point of view on the Torah coming from the Diaspora or the Samarian community in the art of presenting the Exile as a place for God's encounter and in presenting the Torah only (and not the binding of the land) as the main foundation for Israel's future and identity.
