Abstract In vv. 3b–5 Paul divides the components of a primitive unified creed for emphasis. To it he added vv. 6–7, which is partly traditional, because the mention of ‘all the apostles’ permitted him to broaden the concept sufficiently for him to identify himself as an ‘apostle’ in v. 8.
