Abstract From the writings of Gregory the Great, it can be seen that among the "styles of life" constituent and unrenounceable for every messenger/master of the Word, above all the Pope emphasizes the study of the sacred Scriptures.
The dull and the impatient are branded and stigmatized as "rash": "the unskillful venture not to approach an office of authority" because "many are covetous of teaching what they have not learned", also observing that "in teaching, language is confounded when one thing is learned and another taught". The obliga-conclusion for Gregory is one alone: it is evidently necessary "that teachers, ever meditating in their own hearts the words of Sacred Writ". For the Masters of the Word, the study of the sacri eloquii praecepta is a reality to be lived cotidie, semper, sine recessione.
