Abstract The divisions of the text in Codex B are almost unexplored. This study attempts to clarify three aspects of the problem in the Gospels: the identification of the various signs of division, their interconnection and their function for the reading of the text. For the liturgical aim of the Codex (if its origin refers to the command of the emperor Constantine to Eusebius of Caesarea or of his son Constant to Athanasius of Alexandria) the numbers of the sections and the paragraphoi would be enough; but the whole accurate system of the signs goes beyond: as the recently discovered distigmai have a text critical function, so the signs of division a hermeneutical purpose. Their knowledge gives enlightenment to those study the structure of the biblical texts.
