Abstract Is it possible that the Poem in honor of the Four Nights in the Targum to Exodus 12:42 is the background for the story of the Lord’s Easter in Mt 26 – 28? This study, after a brief presentation of the Poem and the story of the Easter of the Lord in Matthew, analyzes the latter according to the criteria of biblical rhetorical analysis. After considering various elements, it formulates the hypothesis that the Poem of the Four Nights is the background or at least a remarkable reference for the organization of the story of Matthew. The relationship between the two texts is one of fulfillment: Jesus Christ, Son of God and King of the Jews, is the Messiah who fulfills, for the benefit of all nations, the promised salvation reserved to Israel.
