Abstract The predominant theory among scholars of 1 and 2 Chronicles during the last century was essentially that the plans of God were entirely fulfilled in the community of the chronicler to such an extent as to leave little if no space for an es-chatological expectation. Some scholars, D.N. Freedman, F.M. Cross and D.N. Newsome, R. Mosis, G.M. Williamson, were not in agreement with this theory, although each one had their own reasons. In this article, the author presents a new idea that confirms messianism in the book of Chronicles, the last book of the Hebrew Bible written after the Maccabean crisis. The last words: "JHWH, his God, is with him" (2 Chr 36,23), are considered as a "coded" quote from Num 23,21 and from its context: the prophecy of the pagan prophet Balaam who blessed the people of Israel with the words ("a star will come out of Jacob and a scepter will rise out of Israel", Num 24,17), that were considered as having messianic value in the 1st century BC.
