Abstract The scope of this contribution is to highlight the theological concept of the book of Jeremiah regarding the Temple, the Holy City and the priests. After a short introductory note on the priestly origin of Jeremiah, the analysis concentrates on the passages which focus on the controversy against priests as leaders of the people, those relating to the cult and those that show the relationship of the prophet with some priests who are responsible for the security of the temple. Furthermore, some of the words of salvation present in chaps. 30-31 and 33, show the positive attitude of the prophet towards priests and the Holy City. Though the book gives great importance to the prophetical character of the existence and mission of Jeremiah, it does however offer a good amount of details regarding the familiarity and the bond of the prophet with these institutions, which underline for the present time the original vocation and a future prospective of their defining role in the construction of the new Israel.
