Titre en anglais: The Croatian Glagolitic Passion of St. Andrew the Apostle.
Abstract In addition to the apocryphal acts of the apostle Andrew, The Acts of Andrew and Mathew in the Cannibal City and The Acts of Peter and Andrew, the apocryphal passion of St. Andrew the Apostle can also be found in the Croatian medieval literature. The Passion of St. Andrew the Apostle is an Office reading on November 30, the Saint’s feast day, in the Proper of the Saints in nineteen Croatian Glagolitic breviaries from the 14th to the mid 16th century. The Glagolitic Passion is a translation of the Latin text Epistula presbyterorum et diaconorum Achaiae (BHL 428) from the 6th century. Although the breviary texts do not completely follow the Latin passion and some chapters are considerably shortened, the Glagolitic passion contains the main parts of the story about St. Andrew’s martyrdom. The length and the characteristics of the Glagolitic passion texts differ. A close similarity with the Latin passion manuscript Parisiacus 11750 from the 11th century (the Bonnet edition) is identified. The Croatian Glagolitic Passion of St. Andrew the Apostle from the Vatican Breviary Illirico 6, from the year 1379, is published in the Latin alphabet transliteration with the text variants from all other breviaries.
