Abstract The Septuagint ranks among the most important documents in the history of religion. With its origins inextricably linked to Alexandria, from where it was disseminated into the rest of the Mediterranean world, the Septuagint is a paradigmatic case study of the essential exchange between Hellenism and Judaism. For the New Testament it is fundamental, for Early Christianity simply “The Holy Scripture“. This article provides a short introduction to the Septuagint, taking into account the current state of research.
