Abstract This study presents the analysis of the story related in B. Shabbat 116b staging Rabban Gamaliel, Imma Shalom and a philosopher quoting the Gospel. The author of this article points out the genealogy of the document and demonstrates that the scribe had a definite knowledge of the Gospels’ content. He clearly states that it is a fictitious story, of late production, witch belongs to the last written stratum of the Talmud. He concludes that this text is an answer to the seventh century’s anti-Judaic Christian propaganda and wonders whether it contains a discrete allusion to the first Islamic conquests.
