Abstract The author investigates the political crises which occurred in Phoenician cities during the Persian period. The main sources of information are inscriptions, classical texts and coins, yearly dated in Sidon from 372 BCE onwards, These sources are relatively numerous for Sidon, much less so for Tyre and Byblos and quite scarce for Arwad. The aim of this article is to identify each crisis, to study its precise nature, context, origin, length and the remedy possibly used to avoid or stop it. However, care has to be taken because different categories, political and religious for example, sometimes interfere with each other.
