Abstract The present article advances the study of the patristic exegesis of the book of Canticles by introducing a new catena to the scholarly forum. It elaborates on three perspectives of the catena Hauniensis, which was unknown until now and is named after one of its manuscripts (Hauniensis, Gamle Kongelige Samling 6,2°). Firstly, the contents of the catena are discussed. Although its title identifies the exegesis as a mere summary of the homilies on Canticles by Gregory of Nyssa, other Fathers can be identified as well. In addition to fragments of Origen, Philo of Carpasia and Cyril of Alexandria, the catena presents unidentified exegesis. Secondly, the manuscript tradition is looked into: the so-called catena Athonita is not and independent witness, but testifies to the last part of the catena Hauniensis. Thirdly, some examples illustrate how this discovery may offer an interesting contribution to the research of both the catena traditions of the Solomonic books and the textual criticism of LXX Canticles.
