Abstract In his doctoral thesis «Prophet und Tempel», which came into being during the Second World War, M.A. Schmidt studied the problem of the praesentia Dei in the Old Testament. He discussed the critical position of the prophets against the temple of Jerusalem and found a new definition of the prophetical understanding first of all in the book of Isaiah. An echo of this conception will be read in the «Psalm of Isaiah» (Is 12), the object of this study. This text is often interpreted to be a completion formulated by the redactor of the book. But the structure of this text is poetic, not written in prose, presenting a threefold gradation, ascending and expanding successively in parallel verses (v. 1—2; v. 3-4; v. 5—6). And there are other features of poetry. It may be assumed that an old thanksgiving song was used by the redactor to give an eschatological scope to the first book of Isaiah (ch. 2-12): In the future there will be a pilgrimage of the nations to Mount Zion (2,2-4) where God's presence is celebrated (12,1-6). The text is a creation out of the term of salvation (yeschuah, three times) as is the name of the prophet (Yescha-Yahu). Reconciliation will grow where the presence of God occurs (2,4; 12,5),
