Abstract The Book of Acts was well known in the West in the patristic and medieval periods, but very seldom commentated on. This study looks at this strange reception, by way of the commentaries on one passage, Peter's Vision at Joppe (Ac 10: 9-16). Under the apparent inertia of the commentaries, we can discover some clear developments: a progressively moralistic view of the passage, which disregarded the welcome of pagans into the Church; a monastic spirituality which is predominant during the Middle Ages, until a missionary interpretation recurs in the 13th century.
