Abstract 'What contribution can a narrative critical approach offer to the interpretation of the Temple episode in John? According to A. Guida, John's displacement and rewriting of the Synoptic story is intended to form a diptych with the episode of Cana, thus offering a double main entrance in Johannine characterization of Jesus as the bridegroom and the true fulfillment of Jewish institutions. Far from being just a polemical attack against the system of sacrifices or other Jewish customs, Jesus' "zeal" for his Father's house is both a strong act of sell-definition and a provocation to his (and John's) Jewish audience towards a new comprehension of old and inadequate categories, such as inclusion/exclusion and insiders/outsiders. Temple is not rejected as a symbol of God's presence but is newly reinterpreted through a Christological localization (Jesus' resurrected body), as the analysis of Johannine/Old Testament intertextuality shows.
