Abstract This article sets out to study the theological freedom with which Tertullian, in his Adversus Praxean, takes up and transforms the philosophical concept of «body of God». After a brief retrospective on stoicism, the original creator of the formula, and on the underlying historical context of Adversus Praxean, in turn we run through the two arguments developed by Tertullian to refute the patripassionist heresy: first the role of sermo Dei in the creation testifying to its ontological consistency, then the inherence of this sermo in God showing its spiritual development, expressed precisely by the term corpus.
