Abstract As long as the Apocalypse has existed scholars have acknowledged the significance of the symbols of the lion and Lamb for understanding the message of the Apocalypse. The relationship between the two figures is particularly pivotal to the debate. There is, however, little scholarly consensus as to the nature of this relationship. The purpose of this study is to articulate and clarify the scholarly debate on this issue in order to shed light on the issues involved and to suggest some possible solutions.
