Abstract What is actually “the” Scripture, or “the Bible”, which the Reformation Principle addresses? The canonical-historical result, which brought together the Bible of the Reformation with an anti-Roman direction of impact, seems to amount to the final deconstruction of the Reformation principle. Reader-oriented, and reception-aesthetic text theories accord to “sola scriptura” new plausibility. Here it is essential to renew the classic doctrine of inspiration as theory of the inspired reader. In this regard, the question offers itself as to how far the church is the subject or object of the canon itself. Also after the Enlightenment Bibliology needs a pneumatological foundation. Besides this, the Christian canon has an implicit Trinitarian and a Christological structure, which is always to be reconstructed with the logic of the Incarnation and Cross.
