Abstract During the last decades, important changes have taken place in biblical studies over monotheism and aniconism. These do not seem to be important elements of Israel or Juda's religion anymore. Recent archeological and iconographic studies have shown that Israelitic religion was not aniconic in its origins, but, on the contrary, images were a fact in Israel's culture and religion since the beginning. This article briefly undertakes the problem of biblical iconism and aniconism. After a short overview of the main eras in Israel's history, we conclude that the Yahweh's 's Torah became the new icon (aniconic icon) of the Jewish religion in the post exile.
